Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism is the first of our seven sacraments. It is through Baptism that the stain of original sin, and any other sin, is wiped away and we become new members of the Body of Christ and the Catholic Church. In St. Alphonsa Cathedral, baptisms are held on request. You can contact the Parish Office at 905 814 6003 or email office@stalphonsacathedral.ca to make a booking.

We extend a special welcome to you if you are trying to find out more about Baptism for yourself, or for your child. If you are an adult who is seeking more information on how to become a member of the Catholic Church, please refer to The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). If you have recently become a parent, or your child is a little older, we want to assist you in raising your child in the faith.

  • Here at St. Alphonsa Cathedral, we require that all parents meet with a parish priest or a Pastoral Associate. At the meeting, a choice of dates will be offered for the baptismal preparation class followed by a date for the sacrament of Baptism.
  • Fill out the form given below. This will include the details required for the Baptismal Register and the Baptism Certificate, as well as the signatures of the parents. At least one Catholic godparent is required, and not more than two godparents (one of these may be of another Christian faith, but at least one must be Catholic).
